SCHENECTADY, NY -- Abby Katz had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Amy Fisher scored 16 points as the Union College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in the Liberty League win a 78-62 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchwomen are 8-2 overall while the Engineers are 1-2 in the league and 5-7 overall.
Katz recorded her second double-double of the season and her game high 12 rebounds were a new careeer high. Both Katz and Fisher dished out three assists. Erin Lyons' produced a game high five assists with a career best 13 points and eight rebounds. Cailin Schmeer had 14 points for the Dutchwomen, who shot 41% and had a 47-34 rebounding advantage over the Engineers.
RPI was led by LaKissa Martin's 15 points and Ashley Clough had 14 with three blocks for the Engineers, who shot 36%. Elizabeth Eckhartdt had 11 points and Lauren Young had three steals.
Union had a 17-14 lead at the end of the first but RPI took a 33-31 lead into the half. Union went up by 10 with 1:09 left in the third quarter, 51-41. With 7:06 left in the fourth, Union led by three at 53-50 then went on a 8-1 run for a 61-51 with 5:27 to play after a three point play by Sophie Borg. The largest lead was the 16 point final after two free throws by Barra.
The Dutchwomen host Skidmore in Liberty League play Saturday at 2 p.m.
