Alfred University loses E8 opener

ALFRED, NY—Junior Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) scored 18 points and collected eight rebounds in a loss to Empire 8 opponent Utica College Tuesday evening in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
 
By the end of the first quarter the Saxons remained close on the tail of the Pioneers, only behind 20-18 10 minutes into the game.  However, the Pioneers found momentum in the second period and generated a 47-33 lead heading into the first half break.
 
By the intermission Off had already mounted 10 points and five rebounds toward her efforts. Sophomore McKaylee Croll (Perry, NY/Perry) also amassed 10 points.  Alfred University shot 12-of-35 (34.3%) from the field while Utica made 18-of-37 (48.6%) shots.
 
In the second half the Pioneers increased their lead to finish the game, 80-50. Mary Miceli led the Pioneers on the evening with 27 points over 33 minutes. Miceli and Calypso Carty accumulated nine rebounds each for Utica. 
 
Senior Sarah Kichman (Portville, NY/Portville) ended the evening with eight points and eight rebounds while sophomore Taylor Kelley (Andover, NY/Andover) posted six points and four rebounds.
 
The Saxons (1-9, E8 0-1) return to E8 action on Friday when they take on Nazareth College at home at 8PM.
