WESTFIELD, Mass. –  The Westfield State women's basketball team scored a school record 119 points as the Owls raced past the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) 119  in the tip-off game of the second annual Westfield State Holiday Tournament at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield (6-4) pushed the pace all afternoon, leading 31-12 at the end of the first quarter and 60-37 at the half. Jill Valley (Mahar/Orange, Mass.) netted 16 points in the first half for the Owls with Forbasaw Nkamebo (Amherst/Amherst, Mass.) adding 10.

The Owls cracked the 100-point mark on a layup by Kirsy Segarra (Holyoke/Holyoke, Mass.) with 7:21 left in the game.

The Owls set the school record for points in a game for the second time this season.  The Owls tallied 113 in a win over Rivier (N.H.) University in December.  Westfield has scored 100 or more points on three occasions this season and ranked third in the country in points per game (88.7) entering the contest.

Westfield had six players finish in double-figures in scoring with Valley and Nkamebo each netting 18 points. Lucy Barrett (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.) added 15. Freshman guard Allison Hester (Sutton/Sutton, Mass.) handed out eight assists for the Owls, while Segarra came away with eight of Westfield's 27 steals.

St. Joseph's (0-9) was led by 15 points from Kayla Guest (Newington/Newington, Conn.). Rajeen Mayo (Middletown/Middletown, Conn.) and Dhimitra Hatika (South Windsor/South Windsor, Conn.) each added 13. Elisha Pertillar (Windsor/Windsor, Conn.) finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Westfield State advances to tomorrow's championship game at 3:00 p.m. and will play the winner of this afternoon's Wellesley vs. Colby Sawyer game.    St. Joseph will play in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
