HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College women's basketball shot nearly 50 percent from the field and limited Wittenberg to under 30 percent shooting, en route to a 62-44 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers are now 8-4 on the season and 2-1 in NCAC play, while the Tigers fall to 3-7, 2-1.

Hiram finished the contest 25-of-51 (49.0 percent) from the field, while limiting Wittenberg to just 16-of-58 (27.6 percent).

Sophomore Mercedes Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Ponitz Career Technology Center) scored 17 points and added six rebounds.

Sophomore Kaylee Shockley (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) finished with 16 points, while tying her career-high with five steals. Sophomore Allison Vannoy (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) posted an all around solid game, finishing with nine points, a career-high 10 assists and eight rebounds.

Vannoy got Hiram off to a hot start scoring the team's first eight points of the game to give them an early 8-5 lead.

The Terriers would build their lead to as large as 14-5 in the opening frame, before Wittenberg scored the final five points to cut Hiram's lead to 14-10 after one period.

In the second quarter, a 3-pointer by Shockley allowed Hiram to open its first double digit lead of the game at 32-20 with 2:52 left in the half.

A jumper by Jones in the final minute allowed the Terriers to take a 34-22 edge into the intermission.

In the third quarter, Wittenberg was able to cut the Hiram lead to eight points at 39-31. But the Terriers responded with the final seven points to take a 46-31 lead after three quarters.

Hiram expanded its lead in the fourth, scoring the first four points to open up a 50-31 advantage. The Tigers would pull to within 13 points twice, but the Terriers had an answer with a basket on their next possession to hold the lead and not allow Wittenberg to draw any closer

The Terriers finished with a 37-33 edge in rebounding and dominated the Tigers in the paint, outscoring them 28-12.

Taylore Bundy led Wittenberg with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Hiram will have a quick turnaround and will continue its four-game homestand on Sunday against No. 24-ranked DePauw (Ind.). Tipoff will be after the conclusion of the men's game at approximately 3 p.m.
