BRONX, NY --- Junior Amely Del Rosario scored 20 points, surpassing 1000 points for her career on Wednesday afternoon as host Lehman College lost to the visiting College of New Jersey, 65-48 in the Championship final of the CUNY Coaches versus Cancer Tournament.
Del Rosario made it 1001 career points off a jumper with 2:38 remaining in the third quarter. At the next stoppage, she was recognized by her coaches, teammates and the Lightning faithful for her accomplishments. For the game, she shot seven-of-25 with seven rebounds, two blocks, three assists and two steals.
The Lightning of Lehman (7-5) also received a strong outing from senior Jennifer Navaro, who finished with 14 points, three rebounds and three steals. Senior Karrin Walker was a presence inside, as she pulled down a game-high 12 boards with eight points and two steals.
The Lions of New Jersey (5-6) claimed the CUNY Coaches versus Cancer Tournament Championship. A balanced scoring attack was led by sophomore Cindy Napolitano, with 11 points, while senior Christina Melina had eight points and ten rebounds.
Del Rosario was joined on the CUNY Coaches versus Cancer All-Tournament team with sophomore Danielle Leguillou from Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, senior Ashley Pledger from the College of Saint Elizabeth and sophomore Nikki Schott from TCNJ. Junior Kim Dana from the College of New Jersey was named the Tournament MVP.
Lehman will be back on the court on Wednesday, January 6th when they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a 6:00 p.m. contest at the APEX.
