Millsaps falls in second game at D3hoops.com Classic

The Millsaps women's basketball team fell in their final game of the D3hoops.com classic to DeSales earlier today by a score of 58-43.
 
After holding an early first quarter lead, the Majors trailed by three points at the half.  The Bulldogs, however, answered with a 13-4 third quarter run to take a double-digit lead – and never looked back.  The win marks the fifth of the season for DeSales while the Majors fall to 5-5 on the year.  Today's contest ends the week of play in Vegas for Millsaps as they will continue traveling for the next four games.
 
Millsaps earned the first quarter lead with a great deal of effective shooting.  The Majors shot 7-15 from the field (46.7 percent) while also going 2-4 on three pointers. Braxton Thomas led the way for the Majors as she finished the contest with 14 points on five field goals, one three pointer and three free throws.
 
The Bulldogs answered the early deficit by outscoring the Majors 14-6 in the second quarter.  DeSales earned their first lead since the first minute of play on a 14-4 run to end the half.  From there, the Bulldogs continued their momentum by expanding on the late first half run to earn the 58-43 win.
 
Both teams were nearly equal in rebound totals as the Bulldogs held a slight edge over the Majors 51-47.  DeSales held the advantage in points off turnovers (15-2), second chance points (11-7) and points in the paint (22-18).  In overall shooting totals, the Bulldogs finished 21-72 (29.2 percent) from the field and 6-21 (28.6 percent) on three pointers while the Majors finished 14-56 (25 percent) from the field and 3-17 (17.6 percent) on three pointers.
