SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – Hartwick's women's basketball team ended its trip to Puerto Rico with a 52-40 setback to nationally 12th ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at Colesio Ruben Rodriguez on Monday afternoon at the San Juan Shootout. The loss drops to Hawks to 2-6 overall. The Warhawks improve to 9-0.
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) and Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) combined for 29 points to pace the Hawks. Vonasek shot 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line for a game-high 16 points. Foreman shot 4-of-8 from the field for 13 points and she grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) registered a team-best four steals. Jessica Bellai (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) dished out a game-high three assists.
The Hawks shot 40% (14-for-35) from the floor as a group. They would hold the Warhawks to 39.3% (22-for-56). Whitewater was dominant on the glass, out-rebounding the Hawks 43-18.
The Warhawks were paced by Abbie Reeves' 14 points. Brooke Trewyn and Olivia Freckmann each grabbed 10 rebounds.
Hartwick is idle until Tuesday, January 5 when the team hosts Houghton College in its Empire 8 Conference opener. The Hawks and Highlanders tip-off at 8 p.m. at Lambros Arena.
