@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball pushes past New Rochelle, 68-54

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball ripped off a 68-54 non-conference victory from the New Rochelle Blue Angels on Wednesday evening from The Wellness Center.  With the strong road win, Old Westbury moves to 2-1 on the season while New Rochelle dropped to 2-5.  

Old Westbury flexed its offensive muscles early by opening the game with a 6-0 run.  New Rochelle answered with a 14-5 scoring spree to close out the final 7:39 of the first quarter for a 14-11 lead.  Jasmine Brandon opened the second-quarter scoring with a jumper to grab New Rochelle its largest lead of the game to go up 16-11 with 9:41 remaining in the half.  Old Westbury replied with a 19-3 run from 8:01 to 1:31 to grab hold a 30-19 advantage.  The Panthers took a nine-point cushion (32-23) into the break.    

The Panthers extended its lead to 12 in the third quarter as Old Westbury held a 17-15 scoring advantage during the stanza.  New Rochelle pulled within six points (51-45) at the 8:25 mark in the fourth quarter before Old Westbury broke out a 12-3 spurt from 7:29 to 1:36.  Old Westbury pushed its lead to 17 points (68-51) with 19 seconds remaining.  

Three Panthers finished in double figures, led by 13 points (5-of-13 FG) from Raven Pentz.  Rounding out the trio was 11 points (5-of-9 FG) for Crystal Barnes whileBridgid McNeill put up 10 points (4-of-9 FG).  Pentz finished the game with four assists, four rebounds and three steals.  McNeill added three steals while Barnes,Kendra Jordan, and Tori Bellings each nabbed two steals.  Old Westbury received significant bench contributions from Bellings, who ripped down a game-high nine rebounds, and Monique Joseph, who netted nine points (4-of-7 FG).  

New Rochelle was led by Brandon, who finished with a game-high 21 points (8-of-14 FG).  

Old Westbury shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) from the field while shooting 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three-point range and 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, New Rochelle shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the floor, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from beyond the arc and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) at the charity stripe.  New Rochelle won the boards battle, 40-39, while Old Westbury scored 16 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers held the edge in steals (12-6), assists (15-8) and blocks (2-0) as Old Westbury converted 26 New Rochelle turnovers into 27 points.   
     
MANHATTANVILLE VALIANTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Monday (Nov. 30) for its home opener against the Manhattanville Valiants at 5 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
