STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Three players reached double figure scoring as the Hiram College women's basketball team posted a 56-44 victory at Franciscan on Monday.

The Terriers now stand at 7-3 on the season, while the Barons fall to 1-7. The seven wins for Hiram already matches last season's win output.

Sophomore Mercedes Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Ponitz Career Technology Center) paced the Terriers with 13 points.

Sophomore Kaylee Shockley (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) recorded 12 points and six rebounds and sophomore Allison Vannoy (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) finished with 11 points.

Hiram opened up an early 8-2 lead less than three minutes into the game on a jumper by Vannoy.

The Terriers held a 12-7 lead after one frame and took control of the contest in the second quarter.

After Franciscan scored first, Hiram would reel off 15 of the next 16 points to take a 27-10 lead. The Barons would score the final two points of the half, giving Hiram a 27-12 lead at the break.

The Barons came out in the third quarter strong, and trimmed Hiram's lead to 27-18.

The Terriers responded with the next seven points to expand their lead to 34-18 with 5:17 to play in the period.

Jones would score the final three points to give Hiram a 42-25 edge through three quarters.

Hiram would put the game away for good, going on a 10-0 run early in the fourth quarter to build a 25-point lead at 52-27.

Off the bench, freshman Savana Lowery (Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton) finished with eight points and a career-high nine rebounds. Junior Dana Perrotta (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) added six points and five assists.

Hiram's defense was tough all evening, limiting Franciscan to 25.8 percent (17-of-66) shooting. The Terriers converted 41.1 percent (23-of-56) of their shot attempts.

Hiram also held a 48-36 advantage in rebounding and outscored the Barons 32-10 in the paint.

The Terriers will now take a few weeks off and will play next on December 28, when they open up a four game homestand against non-conference foe Muskingum at 6 p.m.
