Fulton Posts Double-Double in Season Opener for Women’s Basketball

Annandale-On-Hudson, NY – Caseylynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) posted 11 points and 12 rebounds as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team led at halftime but a strong finish gave host Bard College at 64-59 victory in the season-opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon.

The Raptors (1-0) led by as many as seven in the opening quarter but the Roos got within 14-11 after Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) hit on a pair of free throws to close out the opening 10 minutes.

The Roos (0-1) outscored Bard 14-10 in the second quarter to take a 25-24 lead into intermission. Sierra Snow (Ausable Forks, NY) gave SUNY Canton their first lead of the game with 3:59 left in the half after she converted a bucket in the paint off a pass from Saltus. The Roos led by as many as three in the second quarter.


The teams were even scoring 12 points each in the third stanza as SUNY Canton took a one-point lead into the final quarter. Both teams combined to score 50 points over the final 10 minutes as the Raptors earned a five-point victory.

With 8:23 remaining SUNY Canton led 42-40 but Bard used a 16-4 run over the next six minutes to open up a 10-point advantage. The Roos got within three points with just six seconds left after Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) buried a three-pointer but the Raptors converted their free throws for the win.

Fulton recorded a double-double, while Saltus led the Roos with 19 points and five steals. Logan Tallman (Heuvelton, NY) and Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) chipped in eight and seven points, respectively, while Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) tallied 14 rebounds.

Tytravia Riley led Bard with 20 points and 21 rebounds, while Bianka Bell added 24 points. The Roos held an 11-4 edge in points of the bench and 24-20 advantage in points in the paint.

The women's basketball team will return home next Saturday when it hosts the Kevin Fee / Roos Classic on Saturday and Sunday in the Roos House. SUNY Canton will square off with Cazenovia College on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Roos House.
