Whitton Sisters Square off as Women’s Basketball Visits Albany Pharmacy

Albany, NY – Freshman Paige Whitton (Hermon, NY) and her old sister Rochelle Whitton competed against each other at the collegiate level for the first time but the SUNY Canton women's basketball team dropped a 70-50 decision to host Albany College of Pharmacy on Sunday afternoon.

Whitton finished with seven points and five rebounds in 26 minutes for the Roos. Meanwhile, older sister Rochelle recorded seven points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in 37 minutes.

 

Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) led SUNY Canton (1-5) with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) added eight points and seven rebounds. Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) andTyberia Wallace (Harlem, NY) posted six points each as all 12 players saw at least four minutes for SUNY Canton.

Sarah Pacheco paced the Panthers (7-1) with 21 points and eight rebounds including hitting on 13 of her 16 free throw attempts. Allie Mitchell (14) and Dannie Griffin (10) also posted double figure points for Albany Pharmacy.

Both teams struggled to take care of the ball in the contest as they combined for 68 turnovers and 30 steals. The first quarter was close throughout as the Panthers took an 18-14 lead after 10 minutes of play. The hosts took their largest lead of the half heading into intermission leading 34-26 after a Rebecca Foote layup.

The Panthers led by as many as 15 in the third quarter as they made a living at the charity stripe with 25 points at the line on the afternoon. ACPHS held the edge in points off turnovers (26-18), while SUNY Canton held a slim advantage in points in the paint (30-26).
