Cortland led only 4-3 six minutes into the first quarter and 7-6 after Cleary hit a 3-pointer for the Soaring Eagles with 2:23 left. Rice's 3-pointer with 1:57 left in the first gave Cortland a 10-6 lead and triggered a roar from the crowd in attendance during the Red Dragons' second annual "Silent Night" Toys for Tots fundraiser. The theme for the nights calls for the Cortland fans to remain silent until the Red Dragons score their 10th point in the game.

The Red Dragons led 10-8 after one quarter and 14-10 with 8:29 left in the second. From that point, Cortland went on a 22-5 run to end the half and take a 36-15 lead into intermission. That run included seven points from Cohen, two Rice 3-pointers, and six points by junior Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley).

The hosts then opened the second half with a 14-0 run, featuring six points by Rice and four from sophomore Taylor Miller (Freeport), to extend the lead to 50-15. Cortland led 63-24 after three quarters, and the teams played even at 13-13 over the final 10 minutes.

Cortland shot 46 percent from the floor compared to Elmira's 26 percent. The Red Dragons held a 37-4 advantage in points off of turnovers.
