DePauw Opens NCAC Title Defense with 61-48 Win at Wooster

Wooster, Ohio - DePauw scored the final five points of the first half and opened the second half with a 16-5 run on the way to a 61-48 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Wooster.

The 24th-ranked Tigers improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC with their 17th consecutive NCAC win. The Fighting Scots dropped to 4-3 on the season.

DePauw scored the game's first four points, but Wooster scored the next seven to start  a back-and-forth first half. Wooster's Lauren Hatcher hit back-to-back buckets and Wooster took an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Fighting Scots led by as many as four, but a 6-0 DePauw run put the Tigers back in front 15-13. Wooster held a 20-19 lead before Taylor Howard hit two buckets which sandwiched an Abby Keller free throw and gave DePauw a 24-20 advantage at the break.

DePauw held a 30-25 lead in the opening two minutes of the third quarter before Claire Ryan andMelinda Franke each connected on a pair of field goals and Ryan completed the 10-0 run with a layup at the 5:09 mark to give the Tigers a 40-25 lead. Morgan Skordos' layup with 1:13 left in the third gave DePauw its biggest lead of the game at 46-29.

The Tigers led by as many as 21 on several occasions before the Scots closed the game with a 6-0 run.

Ryan matched her career high with 14 points and added four assists, while Keller posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Budde rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points. 

Lauren Hancher paced Wooster with 19 points and four assists with Shar Hankerson adding 10. Christina Vuckovich paced the Scots with six rebounds.

DePauw shot 48.1 percent from the floor to Wooster's 32.7 percent and the Tigers held a 41-26 edge on the boards.

The Tigers host Anderson at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9.
