Eagles Upended by Beavers

POULTNEY, Vt. – Shakira Bowers (Boston, Mass.) enjoyed the best performance of her young career, but was unable to help the team push past the University of Maine at Farmington as the Eagles dropped a 76-36 decision in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Eagle Dome.

UMF (3-4, 2-1 NAC) sophomore Cheyenne Malloy set a career-high with 20 points as she was nearly perfect from the floor by shooting 7-of-10 and nailed six three pointers in eight attempts. Meghan Smith notched 15 points on a 6-of-7 performance from the floor. Bridget Humphrey grabbed a team-high eight rebounds despite not getting on the scoring ledger.

Green Mountain (0-5, 0-3 NAC) was led by Bowers' nine points, six boards and two blocks. Mercedes Rideout (Chambersburg, Pa.) had seven points while Keelin Banks (Wilmot, N.H.) and Sydney Hill(Newport Beach, Calif.) each had five points.

UMF led from start to finish as it held the Eagles scoreless through an opening 9-0 run. The home side held tough defensively through most of the first half, but couldn't convert offensively.

The large deficit caused the Eagles to press offensively and resulted in some unforced errors which the visitors took advantage of to extend their lead even further.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when the team hosts NAC foe Lyndon State College at 5:30. UMaine-Farmington returns to non-conference action on Wednesday at Bowdoin.
