LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in conference play by taking down Marian University 72-41 at home, winning a sixth consecutive contest.

A basket from Alanna Ferry with 6:29 to play in the first quarter handed Benedictine the lead for good, making the score 4-3
Benedictine scored the final five points of the opening quarter to lead 15-7 after Jasma Williams converted on a layup with 1:44 to play in the frame
The lead quickly reached double figures on the first possession of the second quarter and extended to 22 points at the break (38-16) after Benedictine closed the half on a 10-1 run keyed by a pair of three-pointers from Georgia Alexakos and Casey Williams
Benedictine moved ahead by 35 in the third quarter at 59-24, more than doubling the Marian total following a three from Venita Parsons with 1:15 left
Marian never pulled closer than 30 points in the remainder of the game

"Today was another outstanding team defensive effort," head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "We had some players step up with others out. It was fun to see some shots go in, but it all starts with defense and rebounding."

STAT LEADERS
The bench saw a lot of time in the contest, logging 46 points, more than Marian total and more than half the team's total
Payton Sims knocked down four three-pointers, finishing with a game-high 14 in a reserve role
DeKayla Crayton also reached double figures with 12, adding six rebounds
Casey Williams finished with eight points and seven rebounds while Alanna Ferry dished out seven assists
Benedictine, one of the top rebounding teams in the nation, held a 45-35 edge on the glass
The defense limited Marian to just nine field goals for the game, finishing at 19.6 percent
Benedictine shot 41.8 percent in the game and knocked down nine threes
