DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College held Ripon College to just 21.2 percent field-goal shooting as the Green Knights went on to post a 61-26 Midwest Conference win over the Red Hawks on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights (3-2, 2-0 MWC), with the exception of a 2-2 tie, led from start to finish. With the win, St. Norbert improved to 30-1 in its last 31 games against Midwest Conference opponents.
St. Norbert was able to take control thanks to an 8-0 run after the 2-2 tie thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Regan Carmichael. The Red Hawks cut the deficit to 10-6 but St. Norbert got baskets from Stephanie Weigman, Mallory Nickerson and Jill Kleiman to take a 10-point lead at 16-6. Carmichael canned her third triple of the opening 10 minutes to send St. Norbert into the break ahead 19-6.
The Green Knights, who led 32-16 at halftime, didn't waste much time taking contol in the second half. St. Norbert opened the second half on a 16-6 run over the first 7:05 of the third quarter to lead 48-22 with 2:55 left in the period.
Carmichael led St. Norbert with 16 points, while Brianna Byrne added 12 points and Nickerson 10. The Green Knights shot 40.0 percent from the floor, making 22 of 55 field-goal attempts. St. Norbert also held a 44-32 rebounding advantage.
The Red Hawks made 11 of 52 field-goal attempts and committed 22 turnovers. Maggie Oimoen finished with a team-high eight points for Ripon.
