Hartwick Wins First, 63-54, Over New Paltz

             ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick led by as many as 19 points in the second quarter of a 63-54 victory over visiting SUNY New Paltz Monday night at Lambros Arena. The victory is the first of the season for the Hawks (1-4) and the first for first-year head coach Katie Marcella at 'Wick.
            New Paltz (3-1), which entered the game undefeated, closed the gap to one point, 52-51, with 2:08 remaining in the contest. Hartwick would score the next nine points, however, to close out the victory.

            Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) shot 7-of-9 from the floor and tied for a game-high 15 points. She added a game-high 10 boards for a double-double.
            Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) added 12 points, six rebounds, and game-high three steals. Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) contributed 10 points, and game-high seven assists, and five boards.
            'Wick held its opponent to a season-low 27% shooting. Hartwick also won the rebounding battle, 52-43.
            Hartwick trailed in the first quarter 12-8 before a 14-point run handed the hosts a 22-12 advantage. 'Wick would increase the margin to 19 points 2:47 into the second quarter, 33-14.
            New Paltz would cut it to a six-point game later in the quarter before a free throw and three-pointer from Alicia Razanousky (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) made it 37-27 at halftime.
            Hartwick led by at least five points throughout the third quarter. A pair of Christina Graziadei (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) free throws gave Hartwick a 50-38 lead heading into the final period.
            'Wick would go without a point for a six-minute span in the fourth, allowing New Paltz to get to within one. A Foreman jumper with 1:26 triggered the nine-point run to put the game away. Hartwick would hit seven free throws in a row down the stretch.
            Graziadei finished the contest with nine points and eight rebounds for 'Wick. Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) added eight points and five boards. Razanousky ended the night with four points and six boards.
            New Paltz was led by Sydney Pinn's 15 points. Jasmine Bryant and Courtney Irby each scored 10 points.
            Hartwick is off until a December 1 clash at home against SUNY Oneonta. The Hawks and Red Dragons tip-off at 6 p.m. at Lambros Arena.
