ROANOKE, Va. (Nov. 21, 2015) – Led by freshman all-tournament point guard Bella Taylor, the Sewanee women's basketball team closed out the Jean Beamer Holiday Classic with a 68-64 win over host Roanoke, Saturday, inside the Bast Center.

After scoring a career-high 19 points on Friday night, Taylor followed that performance up with a 17-point effort on 5-of-7 shooting against the Maroons.

Sewanee took an early lead as junior Savannah Rose hit a three with 8:29 left in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Roanoke answered back with a 9-0 run to lead by eight, 11-3, the next four minutes.

A three by freshman Katie Wayne briefly slowed the Roanoke run with a three of her own. However, the Maroons eventually led by 10, 19-9, at the end of the first quarter.

With Roanoke ahead by 11 late in the second quarter, it was again Wayne with a clutch three. That sparked an 8-0 run by the Tigers, which helped cut their deficit to six by halftime.

As play continued in the second half, Sewanee chipped away at the Roanoke lead. Layups by freshman Corey Caulder and senior Jamie Chauvin cut the Roanoke lead to five, 33-28, with 6:48 left in the third quarter.

Another layup by Sue Kim and then a three by Taylor tied the contest at 33-33 two possessions later. Sewanee took its first lead since the first quarter when Taylor hit a three with 3:43 to play in the third.

However, Roanoke edged the Tigers by three points as the third concluded after Bridget Holleran scored four straight points.

In the fourth quarter, Taylor took over. After she made two straight threes to open play, the Tigers' lineup all started making their outside shots. Back-to-back threes by Wayne and Caulder gave Sewanee a seven-point lead with 8:04 left.

From there, Sewanee never looked back. Despite Roanoke getting to within a possession twice, the lead stayed with the Tigers.

Along with Taylor, Chauvin, Wayne, and Caulder both finished in double figures. Caulder added 14 points while Chauvin pitched in 10. Wayne finished with a career-high 12 points and three assists.

As a team, Sewanee made a season-high 39.4 percent of its three-point attempts.

Sewanee and its 3-2 record returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. home game against Agnes Scott, Tuesday.
