#17 Nor'easters blow by Bates, 101-46

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The nationally-ranked University of New England women's basketball team raced out to a 25-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back on its way to a 101-46 victory over Bates College on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 21) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Alanna Vose paced the No. 17/18 Nor'easters (2-0) with 20 points, including 16 in the 1st half as UNE assumed a 46-18 cushion at halftime. While the squad shot 49 percent (17 for 35) from the field during the opening 20 minutes, Big Blue turned 15 Bobcat turnovers into 20 points going the other way.

Alicia Brown and Sam MacDonald -- the other two Nor'easters to reach double digits -- split 34 points on 12-of-18 accuracy from the floor. Olivia Shaw added nine points, and Lauren Hayden filled the stat sheet eight points, seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Meghan Gribbin ended with eight points and eight assists, and Sadie DiPierro pulled in a team-high six rebounds to lead a 41-28 margin on the glass.

In all, 10 UNE players scored at least five points, and the final shooting tallies had the hosts converting 54 percent of their attempts (9 of 18 from deep).

For Bates (0-2), Nina Davenport and Bernadette Connors combined for 23 2nd-half points to finish with 14 and 10, respectively. Allie Coppola registered game-highs in rebounds (7) and blocks (3).

The Nor'easters make a road trip to No. 7/10 Bowdoin College on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.). The Bobcats are slated to visit the University of Southen Maine the same night (5:30 p.m.).
