After opening the 2015-16 season with two wins, the Millikin women's basketball team lost to Westminster College 78-74 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) vs. St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Challenge played at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois on November 20. Millikin is now 2-1 on the season while Westminster goes to 1-1.
Westminster led early building a 21-18 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Big Blue battled back and took a 41-37 lead at the half. Westminster jumped back on top in the third quarter and at the end of three it was a 60-57 Westminster advantage. Millikin pulled to within two at 76-74 with 17 seconds left, but the Bluejays sealed the win with a layup in the final seconds.
Millikin out shot Westminster 46 percent to 39 percent and won the rebounding battle 45-37. The difference came at the free throw line where Westminster went 13-29 while Millikin hit on 2-4.
Devin Curry led Millikin with 20 points hitting on 6-7 from three point range. Alyssa Saklak had a double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Millington had 10 rebounds and six points.
Kasey Gatson led Westminster with 22 points. Krista Armontrout had 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Millikin will play Greenville College on Saturday at 3 p.m. when the CCIW vs. SLIAC Challenge continues.
