WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (2-1) cruised to a 60-30 victory against Farmingdale State (1-2) in the Pioneers' home opener Nov. 18.
WP scored the first 20 points of the game, not allowing the Rams to get on the scoreboard until a Tyra Harrison steal and fast-break bucket 4:10 into the second quarter. The Pioneers owned a 29-9 advantage at the intermission, as sophomore forward Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and freshman guard Sihana Asani (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) each contributed six points. WP held Farmingdale State to 12.9 (4-31) percent shooting during the first half and compiled a 12-0 edge in second-chance points.
William Paterson steadily increased its lead during the second half, and finished the contest with a 66-44 rebounding edge while limiting the Rams to 11-for-63 (.175) shooting overall and a 4-for-24 (.167) effort from beyond the arc.
Sophomore forward Ariana Gomez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) led all players with 13 points, chipping in nine rebounds, while Woetzel collected eight tallies, eight boards and six assists. Senior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) had six points, seven rebounds and four assists, and senior forward Sadi Bridgeman (Washington Heights, N.Y./Mother Cabrini) pulled down nine boards.
Harrison paced FSC with 11 points and four assists, and junior guard Meghan Cleary finished with eight rebounds.
William Paterson will start conference play Tuesday, Nov. 24, at home against Ramapo at 6:00 p.m.
