Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team avenged its loss to Sage in the 2014 Skyline Conference Tournament Championship game on Thursday night with a 69-61 semifinal victory at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. The Dolphins had three players score in double-figures with sophomore Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) leading all scorers with 23 points.

Mount Saint Vincent never trailed in the game and a Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) jumper with 16:51 left in the first half broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Dolphins the lead for good in the game. The Fraser conversion was part of a 19-6 run that took 11:01 off the clock and gave the Dolphins a 21-8 lead. The Dolphins forced eight Sage turnovers over that stretch and knocked in three triples, including one from Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) that capped the run with 6:44 left in the first half.

Before an Amie Jefferson jumper with 1:14 left in the first half, the Dolphins held the Gators without a field goal for over four minutes late in the half, building a game-high 16 point lead on a Fraser triple with 4:01 left before halftime.

Mount Saint Vincent carried a 26-16 lead into the intermission on Thursday despite shooting just 29.7-percent from the floor. The Mount made four more field goals in the first half than Sage and three more triples to build the 10 point advantage. Fraser led all scorers at the break with 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting.

Sage used a 9-2 run early in the second half to climb to with four points on a Sara Tironi conversion with 14:33 left in regulation. Sage went 3-for-4 from the floor over the spurt and got four points from Tironi.

The Gators would not be able to pull closer than four points the remainder of the night and the Dolphins converted 15 free-throws over the final nine minutes of regulation to secure the eight point victory. Barone scored 14 points over the stretch to secure the victory for the Mount.

Barone went 13-for-18 from the free-throw line in the second half, scoring 18 points after the break. Sage shot nearly 54-percent from the floor after halftime on Thursday, but the Dolphins made two more three-pointers and outscored Sage by four from the free-throw line.

Barone finished the game 4-for-11 from the floor, hitting two triples, on her way to the game-high point total. She added seven rebounds and game-highs in assists with six and steals with five. Carroll knocked in three triples for the Mount, scoring 11 points and handing out three assists.

Fraser went 9-for-18 from the floor for Mount Saint Vincent and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds. Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) netted eight points, handed out three assists and joined Fraser with three steals.

Sage was paced by 20 points from Bowman with Amie Jefferson posting a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Genevieve Schoff totaled nine points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Gators.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent shot 31.8-percent from the floor in the game and knocked down nine three-point field goals. The Dolphins turned 20 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points and finished with a 16-13 edge in points off of turnovers.

With Thursday's win, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 21-5 overall on the season and advances to its second straight conference title game. The Dolphins will travel to top seeded Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. The championship tilt will tip-off at 3:30 p.m.
