BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Four players in double figures, led by junior Alanna Vose with 24, guided top-seeded University of New England past No. 8 Wentworth Institute of Technology, 79-45, in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Basketball Championship played Tuesday evening (Feb. 24) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters (21-5) advance into Thursday's semifinals and will host fourth-seeded Western New England (an 80-75 winner over Eastern Nazarene). Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
WIT closes out the year with a record of 7-19.
Vose knocked down 6-of-10 from behind the arc on the way to her game-high in points, and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Alicia Brown contributed 16 points, nine boards, and four blocks. Junior Sadie DiPierro added 15 points, eight caroms, and four steals. Senior Kelly Coleman tallied 13 points and eight rebounds, and junior Lauren Hayden notched game-highs of eight assists and five steals.
For the Leopards, first-year Riselly Deoleo recorded 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior Rachael Camara totaled 10 points and eight boards in support, while classmate Carly Rogers chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, five blocks, and five assists.
Big Blue never trailed in the contest, and utilized a 21-3 run over a span of 5:26 late in the 1st half to gain separation. Six different players scored during the stretch that saw UNE assume a 42-19 cushion, and two free throws by WIT had the Nor'easters doubling-up their opponent at the break.
UNE extended the gap to as many as 37 (79-42) in the closing minutes.
Wentworth was hampered by 25 percent shooting from the field and 22 turnovers on the night.
