No. 25 Cabrini Clinches Top Spot in CSAC Tourney with Win at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cavaliers survived a late rally and, after 40 minutes, scored their 15th consecutive win today, as the No. 25 Cabrini women's basketball team topped Immaculata 65-64.

The victory improved the Cavaliers to 21-3 on the season and a perfect 15-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  The win also secured the top seed in the upcoming CSAC postseason tournament.   

By virtue of the top seed, Cabrini earns a bye into the semifinal round and will play its tournament games in the comfort of Nerney Field House.

Senior Amber Keys saved the biggest game of her career for the biggest game of the season, as the senior scored a career high 33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.  The senior scored nine of Cabrini's final 12 points, including the team's last seven to seal the win.

Sophomore Tayler Holmes connected on a pair of three pointers for 11 points to go with six boards, while senior Megan Decker paired nine points, six rebounds and four steals.

The Cavaliers build an early lead before Mighty Macs rallied to build a 13-9 advantage at the 13:44 mark of the first half, marking Immaculata's largest lead of the day.  The Blue and White responded, leveling the score at 15 apiece before Keys and Holmes combined for an 8-0 Cabrini run.

Immaculata fought back, as it scored the final five points of the first half to take a 29-27 lead into the halftime break.

Cabrini turned up its defensive pressure to open the second half, as opened the stanza with a 14-0 run, keeping Immaculata of the scoreboard for over five minutes to open the half.  
The Cavaliers' lead hovered between 7-12 points for most of the second half before the Mighty Macs began to rally.

A Keys bucket put Cabrini ahead 60-50 before Immaculata cut the lead in half with hoops on its next two possessions.  Following a Keys free throw, the Mighty Macs hit two more shots and suddenly the Cabrini lead was whittled back to 61-60 with 2:12 to play.

Another Keys bucket pushed the lead back to three points before a pair of Mighty Mac free throws pulled the club to within one again.  Junior Dana Peterson found Keys for a hoop with 60 seconds to play before Immauculata cut the lead back to 65-64 with 41 seconds on the clock.

Immaculata had three possessions in the final 40 seconds, but each time the Cabrini defense held firm to seal the win.

Three Mighty Macs finished in double figures, led by Adriana Sciascia's 18 points.  Sara Smith added 13 points and eight boards for Immaculata (14-8, 11-2 CSAC).

The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Monday, when they host Gwynedd Mercy (14-8, 10-3 CSAC) for Senior Night.   The 6:30 CSAC game will mark the final home regular season appearance for Keys and Decker.

The Blue and White opened conference play with a 57-54 win at Gwynedd Mercy on Dec. 3.  The Griffins built a 45-41 lead midway through the second half before a Holmes' lay-up spurred the Cavaliers to an 8-0 run to take the lead for good.

Keys led the Blue and White with 21 points and nine rebounds.  Decker recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards, while Peterson added 10 points.
