SCHENECTADY, NY -- Kate Thompson scored 12 points with her 12 rebounds and Cailine Schmeer had 21 points to lead the Union College women's basketball team to a 72-55 Liberty League victory over Clarkson University Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchwomen, winners of five of the last six, improved to 8-5 in league play and 14-8 overall while the Golden Knights fell to 9-4 in league play and 16-6 overall.

Thompson recorded her 10th career double-double, and Amy Fisher was one shy of her career high with 16 points. Schmeer had 11 points from the free thorw line. Natalie Leone had five assists and Thompson dished out four for the Dutchwomen, who shot 41% and held Clarkson to 30% shooting. Union outrebounded the guests, 47-39.

Cara Manfredi led Clarkson with 16 points, including 10 from the line, and Alyssia Marsal had 10 with eight rebounds. Ashley Loggins had four assits and Marsal posted three steals.

Union came out strong with a dominant start. With the game tied at 8-8 with 13:53 left in the first, Union went on a 22-4 run over the next 9:13. Union scored 20 points in the paint and the bench scored 14 as Union took a 41-19 lead into halftime. The Dutchwomen shot 49% in the first half and held Clarkson to eight for 29 (28%).

The Dutchwomen opned it up to a 25 point lead after a Schmeer layup made it 57-32 with 10:19 left in the second half. Clarkson got to within 12 at 65-63 with 1:13 left, but the Dutchwomen made nine free throws down the stretch to seal the 17 point victory.

Union plays at Liberty League rival Skidmore Saturday at 2 p.m.
