Senior Jordan Kimes leads Women's Basketball to 60-31 win over Heidelberg

ADA - The Ohio Northern women's basketball team cruised to a 60-31 victory over Heidelberg, Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center. 

The Polar Bears improve their record to 17-5 overall and 13-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, while Heidelberg falls to 9-13, 7-8.

Northern was led by senior Jordan Kimes who scored a game-high 13 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds on the evening. 

Kimes is now 20 points away from her 1000th career point as a Polar Bear. 

Junior Karissa Steffas and sophomore Britt Lauck chipped in eight points apiece for Northern. 

After watching Heidelberg score the games first five points and forcing a Northern timeout, the Polar Bears would go on a 29-0 run to give themselves a comfortable 29-5 lead with 6:25 remaining in the first half.

Heidelberg would then answer with a run of their own, as they scored the games next 11 points to close the gap to 29-16 with 3:08 remaining in the first period. 

After two free-throws from Steffas, the Student Princes' Gina Miccinilli would answer with a 3-pointer to make the score 31-19 at the intermission.

Heidelberg would open up the second half scoring four quick points and closing the deficit to 31-23 with 17:46 to play in the contest. 

From there, the Polar Bears would close the game out on a 29-8 run to extend their lead and put the game away, 60-31. 

Northern shot 37.7% on 23-of-61 shooting from the field while Heidelberg hit 16.9% of their shots on 10-of-59 shooting.

The Polar Bears dominated the boards, out-rebounding Heidelberg 54-34 on the evening, 

ONU returns to the hardwood Saturday afternoon as they travel to New Concord to take on Muskingum at 3 pm.
