TERRE HAUTE, IND. – A dose of hard luck shooting from every section on the floor of Rose-Hulman's Hulbert Arena led Manchester University to a tough afternoon in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday, Feb. 7.

MU, falling to 10-11 overall and 7-7 in league play, got down 8-0 to the host Fightin' Engineers (11-10 overall, 7-7 HCAC) but battled back on the heels of an 8-2 stretch to make it 10-8 just outside of the midway mark of the opening frame. From that point on, the hosts embarked on a 15-0 roll and didn't look back in route to a 63-31 win.

The Spartans concluded the contest hitting less than 40 percent overall from the field (12-of-47 – 25.5), from outside the arc (two-of-eight – 25) and at the free throw line (five-of-14 – 35.7). The inside duo of senior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) and freshman forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) managed good numbers, as Hammond ended with six points and five rebounds, and Bolen chipped in five points and five boards.

The Black and Gold, sitting in a tie with Rose-Hulman for sixth place on the league standings, resume a current two-game road swing Wednesday, Feb. 11. They go to Anderson University for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off inside O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

NOTES: Junior guard Justine Kruger (Francesville, Ind.), leading the squad with two steals, turned in her 12th multiple-steal outing of the season, while senior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) turned in a 17th multiple-assist effort (two) … Hammond grabbed five-or-more rebounds for the 13th time during her senior slate … Junior guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) joined Hammond for the squad scoring lead with six points due to two treys.
