Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore guard Liz Malman (Mendham, N.J.) had a team-high 18 points and five rebounds to lead the visiting Connecticut College Camels to a 67-61 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this afternoon on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 7-15 overall and 1-8 in the NESCAC with its second loss in as many days, while the Camels improve to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in the league.  Trinity fell short despite another tremendous performance by junior center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) who totaled 24 points, 10 rebounds, and a block on the heels of a 22-point, 18-rebound game last night against Wesleyan.

Connecticut College led early, as freshman forward Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored six points to push the visitors to a 14-6 lead at the 12-minute mark.  Trinity answered, scoring the game's next nine points to take a 15-14 lead on a jumper by senior guard Bianca Brenz(Lawrence, Mass.) with 8:31 left in the first half, but the Camels used a 12-2 spurt to go ahead, 26-17 on a short jumper by senior guard Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) with 2:34 on the clock.  Brenz drilled two-pointer with under two minutes left and a trey with six seconds left to make the score, 28-22, in favor of the Camels at halftime.  Brenz and Griffin each had eight points at the break, while Malman led all scorers with nine.  Trinity shot 29.4 percent from the field (10-34) and made just one of nine three-point tries in the first half.

Trinity came out strong in the second half, tying the score at 32-all less than five minutes after intermission, as Griffin scored eight points during a 12-4 Bantam run.  A pair of three-pointers by junior guard Alexa Menard (Wallingford, Conn.) helped vault Trinity ahead, 43-36, at the 12:17 mark, but Hynes scored six of Connecticut College's next 10 points and the Camels led 46-45, with 8:51 left to play.  A short jumper by Trinity senior forward Melanie Mills (Woodstock, Conn.) gave the home squad a 53-50 advantage with 5:51 remaining, but Connecticut College rattled off the game's next nine points to go ahead, 59-53, with 2:45 on the clock after a pair of free throws by junior guard Willa McKinley (Westport, N.Y.).  Griffin answered with a bucket inside and treys by junior guard Christina Raiti (Plainview, N.Y.) and Menard in the final minute pulled Trinity to within three points at 64-61 with 22 seconds to go.  McKinley made one foul shot on the ensuing Camel possession, but Trinity turned the ball over, and Malman put the game out of reach with a pair of free throws.

Trinity connected on six of 11 attempts from long range and 14 of 32 tries overall, as Menard scored all 12 of her points on three-pointers after halftime to lead the charge and added a game-high seven assists.  Mills grabbed 10 boards and blocked one shot, while Brenz and sophomore Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.) added four assists apiece for Trinity.  Hynes had 14 14 points, two blocks, and a team-high nine rebounds, while junior center Jenna Lovett (Tolland, Conn.) and Smith finished 13 points each for Connecticut College.  Lovett also had eight boards, three assists, and two blocked shots, and Smith grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists.
