#16-Wheaton women top North Park 63-48

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team, ranked 16th in the most recent D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, earned a 63-48 victory at home on Wednesday night against North Park (12-9, 4-6 CCIW).

Wheaton is now 19-2 overall and 9-1 in CCIW play as the Thunder remain alone atop the CCIW standings. Wheaton will host Elmhurst on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Junior Ellie Zeller led the Thunder with a game-high 19 points and she added six rebounds. Junior center Hannah Considine tallied a "double-double" with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Chantal Meacham (PICTURED LEFT) scored 13 points with three assists and Katie McDaniels distributed a team-high five assists.

Wheaton recorded a 34.0% (18-for-53) field goal percentage, with 31.3% (5-for-16) behind the three-point arc and an 81.5% (22-for-27) effort at the free throw line. North Park shot 32.8% (19-for-58) from the field, with 22.7% (5-for-22) from three-point range and 55.6% (5-for-9) at the charity stripe. Wheaton controlled the glass with a 44-36 edge in rebounding and the hosts held a 15-13 advantage on the offensive glass.

Nikki Przybyslawski led the Vikings with 11 points off of the bench and Liz Rehberger added 10 points with five rebounds. Nicole Kruckman grabbed a team-best seven rebounds for the guests.

North Park held a 19-18 lead with 7:31 remaining in the first half when a basket by Considine gave Wheaton the lead for good. The Considine basket began a string of five consecutive points for the junior in a 9-2 Wheaton run to close out the first half. Wheaton held a 27-21 lead at the halftime intermission.

The Vikings gradually cut into Wheaton's lead as the Thunder held a two-point advantage at 39-37 with 10:40 remaining in the game. The hosts led 42-39 with 8:42 left in the second half when Ellie Zeller made a pair of free throws that ignited a 15-2 scoring run for the Thunder to give Wheaton a 57-41 lead with 3:15 remaining in regulation.

Note Worthy: Wheaton is 7-0 this season when holding an opponent under 50 points…Considine's "double-double" marked the third consecutive game that she has tallied double digits in both points and rebounds and the seventh time this season she has accomplished the feat…Zeller now has 873 career points, moving into 23rd place on Wheaton's all-time scoring list, passing Sarah Clark (2000-04).
