BRUNSWICK, Maine - Shannon Brady scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Bowdoin College women's basketball team to a 60-51 victory over Amherst on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium.

The 24th-ranked Polar Bears defeat the sixth-ranked Jeffs for the first time since 2009 and improve to 18-2 (6-0 NESCAC) on the season, extending their winning streak to 15. Amherst falls for just the second time this year, dropping to 17-2 (14-2 NESCAC). Bowdoin leads the all-time series 18-12.

Brady finished with 10 rebounds to go with her 21 points on 10-17 shooting from the field while also blocking a pair of shots. She was the lone Polar Bear in double digits as Megan Phelps scored nine points with 11 rebounds and three steals. Sara Binkhorst also pitched in nine points for Bowdoin.

Ali Doswell was the lone Jeff in double figures with 13 points. Hannah Peterson had nine points - all coming on three-pointers for Amherst.

Amherst scored the first four points of Saturday's contest, but the Polar Bears roared back with a 10-0 run, capped by a Binkhorst lay-up and foul shot to give Bowdoin a lead they would not relinquish. The Polar Bears continued to connect with their shots while the Jeffs struggled from the field as another surge, this time a 8-0 run, pushed Bowdoin's lead to double digits following a Lauren Petit three-pointer with 9:20 to go in the opening half. Bowdoin would extend their lead to as many as 16 points in the first stanza before settling for an 11-point edge at halftime, 33-22.

Bowdoin parried every Amherst charge in the second half as the visitors could not get any closer than eight points for the remainder of the game. A pair of Jackie Nagle free throws ended an 8-2 spurt for the Jeffs that cut the Bowdoin lead to 45-37 with 8:59 remaining. But Bowdoin answered with a 6-0 spurt and the lead would sit in double figures until the final minute when Hannah Hackley's three-pointer trimmed the final  margin to nine.

The Polar Bears connected on 42.9% from the field and needed just two three-pointers in the game. Bowdoin held the Jeffs to just 31% shooting from the field as Amherst went 5-24 from long range. Both teams connected on 10 free throws and Bowdoin held a 44-33 edge on the glass.

Bowdoin will host Trinity on Sunday in a rescheduled contest from Friday evening at 1:00 p.m. The Jeffs will travel to play at Colby on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
