DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior captains Alexis Wegrzynek (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Amber Litwinko (Berlin, Conn.) each scored 14 points in Nichols College's 77-56 loss to Roger Williams University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

Freshman Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) chipped in with eight points for the Bison (4-14, 1-10 CCC). Litwinko led Nichols with eight boards while freshman Allison Cerrato (Rockland, Mass.) snared seven. The Bison outrebounded the Hawks 41-40 but committed 24 turnovers which led to 33 points for RWU.

Sophomore Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) led Roger Williams with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting while compiling six rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots, and one steal. Junior Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) scored 16 points – including 9-of-11 from the line.

Nichols held a 10-9 lead midway through the first half behind four points from Wegrzynek. The Hawks answered with a 10-2 run to move in front 19-12 behind four points from Quilty and Ariola. The lead grew to 11 following a pair of free throws from junior Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) with 4:18 on the clock. The Bison closed the half on an 8-2 run to close their deficit to five at the break (31-26).

Quilty led all scorers with nine points through the first 20 minutes while Ariola and Battista each netted seven. Wegrzynek and Litwinko each scored seven to pace the Bison, who shot 39 percent in the first half (13-of-33) and outrebounded the Hawks 23-19.

The Hawks opened the second half on a 16-4 run to open up a 17-point lead four-and-a-half minutes in. Quilty and freshman Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) each scored four to spark the run. Two free throws from Ariola pushed the lead to 21 at the 5:43 mark. Nichols got to within 15 when Litwinko sank a free throw with 3:58.

Roger Williams shot 43 percent from the field for the game (26-of-60) and scored 44 of its points in the paint. Senior Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.), along with sophomore Alexandra Morrow (Townsend, Vt.) and Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.), each scored four points.

Nichols heads to Curry Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The Hawks head to Eastern Nazarene for a 5 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
