Blue Devils fall short after second half surge by 23rd-ranked Titans

MENOMONIE (January 24, 2015) - UW-Oshkosh's second half surge put UW-Stout away Saturday afternoon at Johnson Feildhouse.

Stout was neck and neck with the 23rd ranked Titans in the first half, but a better shooting second half put Oshkosh on top. Ashley Neustifer finished with a team high 13 points and three assists for the Titans, while Jenna Goldsmith (So, St. Anthony, Minn) posted her third double-double of the season for Stout with a team high and career-best 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Neither team could gain the upper hand in the first half. Four ties and nine lead changes kept the game close. Oshkosh took an early 15-8 lead around the 12 minute mark, but Stout soon gained a 16-15 lead on a drive and layup by Becca Smith (So, Victoria, Minn.). The first half ended with the Titans on top by one 32-31.

The second half was a different story as Oshkosh went on a 18-5 run over the first eight minutes of the half, making the score 50-37. The Blue Devils came back to bring the game within 11 points, but the Titans extended their lead to 18 with about five  minutes to go, from threre the game was out of reach for the Blue Devils.

Oshkosh added three more players who scored in double digits, Alicia Tollefson had 12, Alex Richard 11 and Eliza Campbell 10. The Titans also out rebounded the Blue Devils 38-29.

Kyleigh Hebert (Jr, Spencer) was the only other Blue Devil in double digits, scoring 10.

Stout will play its next two games on the road, first at UW-La Crosse Wednesday Feb. 4 at 7 p.m., and then at the nearby UW-River Falls Wednesday Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
