ROME, Ga. – Berry College defeated Oglethorpe University, 75-73, on Saturday afternoon. Chanlir Segarra had 29 points and led a late Vikings' comeback.
With the win, the Vikings advanced to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in conference. The win was the eighth straight in the Cage Center for Berry. OU fell to 5-10 and 0-4 in conference.
The Vikings trailed 71-62 with 3:43 remaining. Berry outscored OU, 13-3, the rest of the way to prevail.
Segarra, who netted six of BC's last 13 points, was 10 of 22 from the field and had six rebounds. Mel McLean had 14 points and Emma Cook contributed 11 for the home team.
Oglethorpe held a 40-39 edge at halftime. In the opening 20 minutes, the Petrels shot 46-percent (12-27) to BC's 33-percent (10-33). Segarra and McLean both had 11 points at the break.
Ciara Hughes led four Stormy Petrels in double digits with 17 points. She also grabbed a game-best 17 rebounds.
"It was a back and forth game the entire way. The game basically went to whoever had the last run at the end," said Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "We found ourselves struggling offensively at times, but we were able to get good looks at the basket."
The Vikings travel to play at Birmingham-Southern next Friday night.
