Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team started the game with eight consecutive points and never trailed in their 73-58 win over John Jay on Friday evening. The victory, which was the Bulldogs' fourth straight, brought BC's overall record to 12-5, while also improving their conference mark to 9-1, while the Bloodhounds fell to 3-13, 3-7 CUNYAC.
"I was very pleased with our performance tonight," said BC Head Coach Alex Lang. "It was nice to be at home and get our fourth straight win, however we know we still have lots of work to get to where we want to be at the end of the season."
Brooklyn went up 15-2 early, and then took their largest lead of the half, 39-22, with 2:39 remaining, however the Bloodhounds were able to manage a 7-0 run to end the half and cut the deficit to 10, 39-29 going into intermission.
The Bulldogs immediately took control of the game once again, stretching the lead to 17 once again after going on a 10-3 run to open the half, capped by a Nacirema Mann layup. Even though the Bloodhounds would have another run in them and cut the deficit to only seven, Brooklyn would immediately up the lead back to double-digits and get it to as many as 21 before holding on to the 15-point win.
Vanessa D'Ambrosi led all scorers with 20 points, converting on four for seven from beyond the arc. Freshman Christina Heyer scored 16 points, dished out four assists and nabbed three steals, marking the third straight game for her to reach double-figures in the score column.
Nacirema Mann came off the bench to pour in 15 points and pull down five boards, while Asia Foster grabbed a team-high 10 boards. Senior point guard Nicole Francomano topped the assist column with five dimes on the night.
The Bloodhounds were led by Amber Villegas' 16 points.
Brooklyn will be back in action Wednesday as they travel to the Bronx for a showdown with conference rival Lehman College at 5:30 pm.
