UW-La Crosse Falls to Nationally-Ranked UW-Oshkosh

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 57-48 to 24th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles drop to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans improve to 14-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference.  UW-Oshkosh recorded it fourth victory in the last five meetings with UW-L with Wednesday's win.

The Eagles never trailed in the first half Wednesday, leading 12-5 with 13:48 remaining after a MaKenzie Miller layup. UW-Oshkosh, ranked 24th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, cut the deficit to 12-10 with 12:39 left on a Eliza Campbell jumper, but UW-L's Rachel Atchison hit a three-pointer and Jenna Anderson a jumper to give the Eagles a 17-10 lead with 10:10 remaining.

The Titans later cut the lead to 19-17 with 2:47 left in the half on two Morgan Kokta's free throws before Atchison scored on a jumper and Miller hit a pair of free throws for a 23-17 advantage.  UW-L led 23-19 at halftime.

UW-Oshkosh scored the first eight points of the second half to lead 27-23 with 17:06 remaining. The Titans had taken their first lead of the game at 24-23 with 18:08 left on a Katelyn Kuehl free throw.  UW-Oshkosh led 33-27 before UW-L scored seven of the game's next nine points to cut the lead to 35-34 with 12:37 left. 

The Titans responded with an 12-2 run to lead 47-36 with 6:17 remaining.  The Eagles could get no closer than six points the rest of game. UW-Oshkosh scored its final 12 points of the game at the free throw line while not making a field goal in the last 6:31. 

UW-L shot 35.4% from the field, including 40.0% (four-of-10) from three-point range, and 76.9% (10-of-13) at the free throw line.  Miller led the Eagles with 14 points while Atchison finished with 13 points.  Anderson added eight points, five assists and three steals. Cameron Chapin had a team-high six rebounds. 

UW-Oshkosh shot 34.0% from the field, including 22.2% (two-of-nine) from three-point range, and 67.6% (23-of-34) at the line. The Titans were 17-of-25 (68.0%) at the line in the second half.  Kokta led UW-Oshkosh with 11 points while Taylor Schmidt and Ashley Neustifter each finished with nine points.  Marissa Selner and Kuehl added eight points each while Campbell had seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 24 at UW-River Falls at 3 p.m.
