MADISON, N.J. (Jan. 19, 2015) – Four Rangers finished with double-digit point totals as the Drew University women's basketball team defeated Arcadia University by a score of 72-63 on Monday evening in Baldwin Gymnasium.

Junior forward Courtney Stephens fronted the Ranger (9-8) offense with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Senior guard Breana Wilson turned in a comprehensive stat sheet complete with 11 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Sophomore forward Courtney Trzasko also snagged seven rebounds and netted 15 points. Also registering a double-digit point total was sophomore guard Hannah Miller who netted 13 points.

From the outset, the contest had the makings of a neck-and-neck battle. Aside from near identical records, the two schools traded baskets for the first 10 minutes.

Wilson appeared unfazed by the constant defensive pressure applied by the opposing point guard. She navigated the court with a certain confidence in her ball handling and then put it on display. At the top of the arch she shook the shadowing guard with a double crossover and finished with a right-handed scoop off the glass to tie the game at 12 with 13 minutes to play in the half.

With six minutes to go, sophomore forward Ryan Jackson rejected a shot from the Knights' (7-9) forward that Wilson hunted down and grabbed. Wilson then proceeded to launch a football pass to Jackson on the other end to complete the sequence. The play gave Drew a 21-18 lead with 6:12 on the first half clock.

The Rangers attacked was fluidity and even distribution. They spread the ball around with effective pass work in close to the basket, running complex, hot potato plays that looked incomplete not set to music. The majority of Arcadia's contributions were coming in the paint as Drew's guards locked the perimeter down with electric defense. Arcadia was forced to utilize their size and search for buckets down low. They hunted for and converted second-attempt points and finished the half with 10 such contributions.

Despite separate plans of attack the halftime score sat at 33-32 in favor of Drew.

The Rangers spread their lead to seven once the second half got underway. Wilson stepped in front of a hurried Arcadia pass and flew up the court with Stephens flanking her. Wilson left it for her and Stephens finished the play with a layup. Meanwhile, Wilson and Trzasko were communicating on near subconscious levels. Wilson seemed to know where Trzasko was at all times and often found her behind the three-point line.

Drew's lead had grown to 61-52 on the strength of magnetic defense from Stephens along the baseline as she halted Arcadia's more effective scorers.

Arcadia made several runs at Drew's lead but their inability to convert on turnovers kept them from getting close. The Rangers completed the contest unthreatened.

The Rangers return to Landmark Conference play for a date with Goucher College set to take place on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gymnasium.
