GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Senior Natasha Matthews netted her 1,000th career point but it was Immaculata who spoiled the celebration, defeating the Griffins, 77-71, to snap their six game win streak Monday evening.

Matthews finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, as she was one of four players in double figures. Needing 14 points to hit the mark, she would hit the milestone on a free throw at the 2:29 mark of the second half.

Junior Olivia Bradford led GM (9-7, 5-2 CSAC) with 17 points while adding seven boards, four assists, and a block. Sophomore Charlotte Kucowski was one rebound shy of double double, finishing with 10 points, nine boards and tied a career-high with three blocks. Freshman Dee Terry came off the bench to score 12.

Sara Smith had a game-high 23 for the Mighty Macs (9-6, 6-0 CSAC) who stayed unbeaten in conference play and win their fifth game in a row. Immaculata would open up a close game midway through the second courtesy of an 18-4 run to break a 45-45 tie. The lead would grow as high as 14 (63-49) off a Lindsay Cras layup with just over seven minutes to play.

The Griffins would pull within six on a big three-pointer from Terry with 5:08 to go. Smith would answer on the next possession, with a three-point play, turning the momentum.

Matthews' milestone point made it a four-point contest (67-63). Smith, who scored 17 second-half points, scored the next two buckets for IU. GM would get within four points on three occasions in the final 32 seconds, but the Mighty Macs were able to go 6-for-6 at the free-throw line to hold off the Griffins.

Mackie Fitzgerald added 17 points for IU, going a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe. Cras added 13 points while Brittany Merkle grabbed a game-high 13 boards and blocked five shots.

Gwynedd, who shot 42.1% in the first half, led 35-33, at the break. In the second, the team was 35.9% to go 39.0% (30-of-77) for the game. Immaculata shot 50.0% in the second stanza and hit 13-of-15 tries from the line. GM had the rebound edge, 54-42, 23 of which were on the offensive side.

The Griffins will get right back at it on Wednesday when they host Marywood as part of a CSAC Doubleheader here at the Griffin Complex. The women tip it off at 6 p.m. followed by the men taking on Cabrini at 8 p.m.
