ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) notched her ninth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) registered her first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 10 boards as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team outlasted Guilford 77-73 in overtime in ODAC action Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets (12-2, 5-1 ODAC) won their seventh straight game and moved into a first-place tie in the conference with Eastern Mennonite and Lynchburg.
R-MC did not trail in overtime. The Yellow Jackets won the tap and junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) made a layup to put R-MC up 64-62. After the Quakers (8-7, 2-4 ODAC) tied it, freshman Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./Parkdale) sank a pair of free throws to give the Yellow Jackets the lead for good at 66-64. Lee had a layup and Anderson made a free throw to put the home team up five at 69-64 with 3:30 left. Guilford cut the lead to one at 74-73 with 1:24 remaining before R-MC hit three free throws to make the final 77-73.
The Quakers led by 13 at 45-32 five minutes into the second half before the Yellow Jackets used a 28-8 run to take a 60-53 advantage with 3:30 remaining. R-MC led 62-59 before Heaven Walters buried a trey with 33 seconds left to knot the score at 62-62.
R-MC never led during the first period. Guilford was ahead 21-11 with seven minutes remaining in the half before the Yellow Jackets scored nine straight to pull within one at 21-20 with five minutes left. The Quakers would eventually take a 31-26 lead to the locker room at intermission.
Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Hester scored 10 points and dished out eight assists for R-MC.
Anais Weatherly had 16 points and 14 boards to lead the Quakers.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 20, with a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Bridgewater.
