Balanced Attack Leads Rams Past Old Westbury

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team had three double-digit scorers as the Rams earned a 68-52 Skyline Conference win over Old Westbury this evening. Farmingdale State improved to 6-7 overall and a perfect 2-0 in conference play.

Leading 15-14 with 10:52 remaining in the first half, the Rams used a 16-0 run over the next 5:11 to extend their advantage to 31-14. Farmingdale State took a 40-20 lead into the break as junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) led the way with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. All 14 players on the Rams saw action in the first half.

Old Westbury (7-8, 1-2) scored the first seven points after halftime to quickly cut their deficit to 40-27.

Leading 45-33, Desvignes connected on a 3-pointer and senior guard Jeanette Spillane (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) hit a layup to extend the lead to 17 points at 50-33.

After back-and-forth scoring, the Rams held at least a 16-point lead for the remainder of the game.

Senior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) registered a team-high 16 points and a game-high five assists, while Desvignes scored 15 points and had eight rebounds. Junior forward Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) pitched in with 13 points, five boards and two blocks for Farmingdale State.

The Panthers were led by Raven Pentz's (Wallkill, N.Y.) game-high 18 points, while senior guard Clarissa Gallagher (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

The Rams next will host Brooklyn College in a non-conference game on Friday, January 16th at 6:00 p.m.
