Gulls defeat Nichols, 64-54

DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) scored 10 points in Nichols College's 64-54 loss to Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Thursday evening at the Nichols Athletic Center.

Senior captain Amber Litwinko (Berlin, Conn.) – who earlier this week was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 'So You Want To be A Coach' program – registered 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 36 minutes of action. Classmate Alexis Wegrzynek (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied 15 points (6-8 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, and one block.

Freshman Sam Charette (Wenham, Mass.) led four Gulls' student-athletes in double figures with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Junior Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals while senior Kayleen Whall (Foxboro, Mass.) snared a game-high 13 rebounds.

The two teams played to a 15-all tie through the first 11 minutes of the first half before Endicott outscored the Bison 18-5 the rest of the way to build a 10-point halftime lead (34-24). Charette and Litwinko each scored 10 points to pace their respective schools. The Gulls drained 46 percent of their first-half field goal attempts (14-of-30), compared to 28 percent for Nichols (9-of-32).

Endicott (6-8, 2-5 CCC) maintained a double-digit lead for all but 1:04 of the second half as Charette and junior Nicole Catizone (Woburn, Mass.) each scored seven points in the stanza. Wegrzynek piled up 11 points and seven boards over the final 20 minutes.

The Gulls scored 42 of their 64 points in the paint and held a 50-38 edge on the glass. They were also credited with assists on 17 of their 23 field goals (74 percent), led by senior Katelyn Wright (Sudbury, Mass.) with 10.

The Bison (4-9, 1-6 CCC) play at Wentworth Saturday at 3 p.m. The Gulls heads to Western New England for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday.
