UW-La Crosse Earns Home Win over UW-Stevens Point

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 59-54 victory over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles improve to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers drop to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.  UW-L snaps a five-game losing streak to UW-Stevens Point with Wednesday's win. 

The game was tied four times in the first half. UW-L led by as many four points in the first half while UW-Stevens Point led by as many as three points, including 23-20 at halftime. 

Elise DeNoyer cut the lead to 23-22 with an opening jumper in the second half, but the Pointers went on a 7-0 run to lead 30-22 with 17:04 remaining after Lauren Anklam's three-point field goal. The Eagles responded with a 12-2 run to take a 34-32 advantage with 13:41 left. 

UW-L led 42-38 with 8:52 remaining on a Jenna Anderson jumper, but UW-Stevens Point scored the game's next six points to lead 44-42.  The game was later tied 46-46 with 4:09 left before UW-L's Cameron Chapin made it 48-46 on a jumper. Taylor Atkinson hit one-of-two free throws for UW-Stevens Point to cut the lead to 48-47 with 2:49 remaining, but UW-L went on a 5-1 run to lead 53-48.  DeNoyer hit a pair of free throws for the Eagles while Chapin had a jumper and Anderson went one-of-two at the free throw line.

Anklam's three-pointer with :30 left cut the lead to 53-51, but UW-L went six-of-six at the free throw line in the final :17. 

UW-L shot 37.5% from the field, including 50.0% (one-of-two) from three-point range, and 78.6% (22-of-28) at the line.  DeNoyer led the Eagles with a career-high 19 points, going eight-of-eight at the free throw line.  She also had seven rebounds. Anderson added 12 points and four assists while MaKenzie Miller and Chapin each had eight points. Miller finished with a team-high 10 rebounds and three blocks.

UW-Stevens Point shot 30.8% from the field, including 28.6% (four-of-14) from three-point range, and 64.3% (18-of-28) at the line. Anklam led the Pointers with 14 points while Kaitlyn Jacobs finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. 

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 17 at UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m.
