ROCHESTER, NY – Host St. John Fisher outscored Hartwick 42-22 in the second half of play to send the Hawks to a 73-50 loss at Manning & Napier Gym on Saturday. With the setback, Hartwick falls to 4-8 overall and 2-2 on the Empire 8. The Cardinals improve to 10-4 and 3-2.
After a neck and neck first half which ended with the Hawks down just three points, 31-28, the Hawks were only able to convert six field goals in the second half. Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) scored to start the second session to cut the lead to two points but a quick 8-0 run for the Cardinals increased the advantage to nine.
A Sydney Bloomstein layup later would make it a 10-point game, 42-32, with 13:40 left to play. The hosts would lead by 10 or more the rest of the day.
The Hawks' deficit was 14 before a Foreman layup and a Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) three-pointer trimmed it to ten, 49-39, once again with just over 10 minutes left in the game. But Hartwick could only muster six free throws over the next nine minutes of action as the Cardinals pulled away for the victory.
Vonasek closed the day with a game-high 18 points for the Hawks. She made five of her nine field goal attempts and hit a trio of three-pointers. She also grabbed four rebounds.
Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby) added seven points, five rebounds, and three assists, and Foreman ended up with six points and five boards. Alicia Razanousky (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane), also scored six for 'Wick.
Cardinals received a team-high 11 points from Bloomstein. Bridget Carney added 10 points.
'Wick connected on 37.2% of its shots in the game with the Cardinals making 41.5%. Fisher made nine three's to the Hawks' four and controlled he glass, 45-30.
Hartwick is off until next Friday night when it hosts Elmira College in another Empire 8 tilt.
