(WASHINGTON, Pa.) – The second-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team used a 37-10 second half run to defeat Washington & Jefferson College, 83-53, today (Saturday, January 10, 2015) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Henry Memorial Center in Washington, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Presidents fall to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the PAC.

W&J jumped out to a 5-0 lead when Beka Bellhy made a lay-up with 18:41 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 5-1 run capped by a three-pointer by junior guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County(Ky.)) to cut the lead to 6-5 with 17:39 to play in the half.  The Presidents responded with a 5-2 run to extend the lead to 11-7 on two Taylor Cortazzo free-throws with 13:22 to play in the opening half.  The Saints used a 13-3 run to take a 20-14 lead with 9:39 to play in the half when Moss made a three-pointer.  Bellhy made a lay-up with 6:23 to play in the first half to cap a 10-3 run for the Presidents and give them a 24-23 lead.  Thomas More closed out the half on a 14-5 run to take a 37-29 halftime lead when sophomore forward Kirsten Paul (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) made one-of-two free-throws with one-second to play in the half.

The Saints opened the second half on the 37-10 run to take their biggest lead of the day at 74-39 when Paul made two free-throws with 6:39 to play in the game.  The Presidents' closed the game on a 14-9 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More cruised to the 83-53 victory.

Thomas More out-scored W&J 32-8 on second chance points and 22-14 on points off turnovers.  13 of the 14 Saints that played in the game scored at least one point in the game, while the Saints' bench out-scored the Presidents, 45-24.

Freshman forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led four Saints in double-figure scoring with a game-high 16 points.  Joining her in double-figure scoring was Moss and Paul with 15 points each and freshman guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 14 points.  Moss recorded her second-straight and sixth double-double of the season as she led the team with 10 rebounds, while she also led the team in assists with three and steals with five.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (January 14) when it hosts Geneva College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
