Dumas Double-Double Helps Cortland Women Defeat Oswego, 81-62

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Brittney Dumas (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds and also blocked four shots as Cortland improved to 9-1 overall (4-0 SUNYAC) with an 81-62 win over visiting Oswego. Cortland is ranked 25th nationally in the latest USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III poll.

Senior Erin Wolstenholme (Oneonta) added 15 points, four assists and four rebounds and senior Brittany Rando (Owego/Owego Free Academy) scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Red Dragons. Dumas made 9-of-16 shots from the floor and Wolstenholme hit 7-of-11 attempts

Sophomore Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) finished with nine points and a career-high five assists and senior Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) amassed six assists, seven rebounds and three steals.

Oswego (3-8, 1-3 SUNYAC) was led by Alisha Jacobs with 11 points and Heather Hebert with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Cortland trailed 12-11 with 12:30 left in the first half before scoring 11 of the next 13 points. A Kerry McHugh (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) jumper capped the run and the Red Dragons led 22-14 with 7:47 remaining. Oswego got back within 24-21 at the 5:11 mark on a Jacobs trey, but Cortland pulled away a little and led 37-28 at halftime. Dumas scored 15 points in the opening period.

Wolstenholme helped Cortland extend its lead as she scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half. The Red Dragons held a double-figure lead for all but 22 seconds of the half. Oswego was still within 11 (59-48) at 8:18 mark after Hebert hit a jumper, but Cortland salted the game away with an 11-0 run that featured five points from Dumas, 3-pointers by Chapko and Rando and a Wolstenholme basket.

Cortland shot 50 percent for the game (30-of-60) and made 9-of-22 of its 3-pointers. The Lakers concluded the contest at 38 percent overall and 32 percent (6-of-19) from the arc.

Cortland travels to Geneseo on Tuesday, January 13, for a 7:30 p.m. SUNYAC game.
