Mandy Traversa scored a career-high and DeVos Fieldhouse record 28 points for the nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team during an 88-62 win against Albion on Wednesday.
The sophomore forward from Winfield, Illinois (Wheaton North HS), matched teammate Brittany Berry's fieldhouse single-game scoring record. Berry totaled 28 points during the Flying Dutch's last home game on Dec. 13 against Chicago.
Traversa also broke school and fieldhouse single-game records with eight 3-pointers made in 13 attempts. She passed the previous school record of seven 3-pointers made shared by Berry (twice), Jordyn Boles (twice), and Nicki Mannes.
Hope improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The Flying Dutch remained tied for first place in the league standings with Calvin after extending this season's overall win streak to nine games.
Hope never trailed after scoring the game's first seven points. The Flying Dutch built up their lead to 46-26 by halftime.
Hope matched its season-high with 28 assists on 35 field goals.
Junior forward Maura McAfee of Midland, Michigan (Midland HS), chipped in 18 points.
Senior forward/center Rebekah Llorens of Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), scored nine points for the Flying Dutch.
Sophomore guard Tyra Smith of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), matched her career- and season-highs with eight points. She also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Hope is ranked 10th in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and 12th in the d3hoops.com poll.
The Flying Dutch return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 when they host Kalamazoo. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
