Women's Winning Streak Snapped

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday as the Cardinals fell 79-69 to host Ithaca College.

With the loss, Fisher falls to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Ithaca improves to 9-3 and 3-0, respectively.
 
Fisher never led in the game. A Mary Kate Cusack 3-pointer pulled Fisher to within two points, 11-9, six minutes in the contest. 
 
Fisher went cold from the floor going nearly five minutes without a field goal, allowing the Bombers to seize a double-digit lead.  Cusack converted back-to-back layups to cut Ithaca's advantage to 30-24 with just under five minutes to play.  Ithaca led 39-29 at the half.
 
The Cardinals came out slow in the second stanza scoring just six points over the first eight minutes, allowing Ithaca to grab a 57-35 lead.
 
The Cardinals did not go away lightly, chipping away at the deficit and eventually pulling to within nine points, 78-69, following a Sydney Bloomstein layup with :20 seconds to play.
 
Fisher struggled from 3-point land in the contest, going just 1-12 to start the game. The Cardinals finished the game 6-for-19 (32%) from behind the arc.
 
Cusack led the way with a game-high 19 points while Portia Velasco and Bloomstein each poured in 16 points.
 
Fisher returns to the court at 6 p.m. Friday when it will host Stevens Institute of Technology.
