Millikin Women's Basketball Wins CCIW Opener

The Millikin women's basketball team rallied twice in the second half to win 69-66 at North Park University in Chicago.  The game was the conference opener for both teams with Millikin improving to 10-2, 1-0 while North Park goes to 8-4, 0-1.
    North Park controlled the first half building an 18 point advantage before taking a 38-27 advantage into the halftime locker room.  Millikin got the offense going in the second half hitting on 64 percent of its shots from the field.  The Big Blue took its first lead of the game with 11:18 left to play in the game on a Holly Haskins three pointer that made it 48-46.  Millikin would hold the lead until 4:26 left in the game when Soly Roman gave the Vikings the lead at 59-57.  Millikin would take the lead for good with 1:17 left to play when Alyssa Saklak converted a layup and one to make it a 66-64 Millikin advantage.  Freshman Devin Curry hit three of four free throws in the final 12 seconds of the game to seal the Big Blue win.
    Millikin shot 51 percent from the field while holding North Park to 38 percent.  Millikin controlled the boards winning the rebounding battle 43-24.
    Saklak led Millikin with a double doule with 27 points and 10 rebounds.  Haskins added 14 points and Hannah Millikin scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Emma Hoyer had nine rebounds for the Big Blue.  
    Millikin played the game without injured starters Kelsey Going and Yip Ypya.
    Annie Shain led North Park with 14 points.  Amani Davis and Liz Rehberger each had 13 points.
    Millikin will travel to North Central College on January 7.
