William Paterson Women’s Basketball Wins Keene State Tournament, 65-53

KEENE, N.H. – Junior guard Sara Luberto (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was named the Keene State Women's Basketball Holiday Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring a game-high 21 points for William Paterson (7-5) in a 65-53 championship-game victory against the host Owls (6-4) Dec. 31.

 

Senior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) posted 20 tallies and three steals, junior forward Alex Milne (Howell, N.J./Howell) had eight points and nine rebounds, and senior forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) collected nine boards. Harden and Marfo joined Luberto on the All-Tournament Team.

 

The Pioneers got off to a hot start, scoring 14 of the game's first 18 points, and when Keene State pulled to within three at 16-13 with 10:53 left in the first half, WP responded with an 18-7 run to end the half for a 34-20 advantage at the break.

 

The Owls put together a 16-5 burst to open the second period (39-36, 13:34), but Luberto ignited a 16-4 run with her jumper and three-pointer to make it a 55-40 score with 6:47 remaining.

 

Senior guard/forward Christan Wojtas and senior forward Courtney Roberts each scored 15 points for Keene State. Sophomore forward Sarah Kober led the Owls with nine rebounds.

 

William Paterson will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 7, at home against Kean at 8:00 p.m.
