Baruch Knocks Off Illinois Wesleyan (63-57)

The Baruch College Bearcats overcame an early 11 point deficit to defeat the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University, 63-57, on Monday afternoon in the third place game of the Sheraton Parsippany Holiday Tournament in Montclair, New Jersey.

The Bearcats started slow and found themselves quickly behind 25-14 midway through the first half. Following a timeout, they exploded with an impressive 17-0 run to take a 31-25 lead with 3:35 left in the half.

The Titans from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tied the game during the second half at 36, but the Bearcats went on another run with 10 straight points to jump ahead 46-36 with 10:58 left in the game.

The Titans would later get as a close as six points (55-49) with 4:33 remaining, but the Bearcats took control down the stretch to record the holiday tournament win.


Sheridan Taylorwas named to the All-Tournament Team with 20 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Veronica Ganzitallied 18 points (7-13 fg) and Alicea Ulmerhad 10 points and seven rebounds to leave New Jersey on a happy note.

The Bearcats shot 48 percent (25-for-52), including 11-of-20 in the second half for the solid neutral court victory.

Gabrielle Holness led the Titans with 16 points and two assists.

Baruch will resume their CUNYAC schedule on Saturday, January 3, with a 1:00 pm contest at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York.
