More news about: UW-Stout

Except for the opening minutes of the game, UW-Stout was forced to play from behind and could never regain a lead in falling 68-57 to Millsaps College Sunday at the Amy Hasbrook Classic at DePauw University Sunday.

Stout (3-7) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on baskets by Katelynne Folkers (Sr, Fall Creek) and Jenna Goldsmith (So, St. Anthony, Minn). The Tigers' Miah Brooks put the scoring burden on her shoulder early, scoing Millsaps' first eight points. Brooks put Millsaps up 6-4, but Goldsmith tied the game at 6-6.

Brooks' eighth point of the game put the Tigers (7-3) up 8-6 before Brea Boomer (Sr, Grand Portage, Minn) tied the score. A 3-pointer by Velvet Johnson gave Millsaps an 11-8 lead, a lead they would not surrender the rest of the way.

Stout got as close as two points, 14-12, midway through the first half on a 3-pointer by Haley Froehlich (Sr, Mondovi) and as close as five points, 31-26, at halftime. Four points, 33-29, two minutes into the second half was as close as the score got. Several times Millsaps would take a double digit lead, and Stout would get it back underneath 10 points with the exception of the score in the final 11 seconds.

Stout shot 23-of-76 from the field (30.3 percent), 4-of-21 from 3-point range (19.0 percent) and 7-of-16 from the line (34.8 percent). Kyleigh Hebert (Jr, Spencer) was the only Blue Devil to score in double digits, dropping 10 points

Millsaps shot 50 percent from the field (24-48), 44.4 percent from 3-point range (4-9) and 84.2 percent (16-19) from the line. The Tigers were led by Brooks who finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson tossed in 13 points and Beverly Holmes came off the bench to score 16 points.
